This book is rife with omissions and errors. If enough of the material I know already is left out or wrong, can this book be trusted to prepare me on the material I don't?My top 3 thus far:"touch - creates empty files" (p3) Well, yes, but that's not all it does..."Chapter 18, "DNS" covers more scenarios and issues that might appear on the exam dealing with troubleshooting GRUB and the system boot process." (p54) Okay, why is boot troubleshooting in the DNS chapter?"You can only have one swap partition per physical disk" (p83) This is outright false on Linux.Save your money on this one.

The book is absolutely horrible. One of the worst study guides I have ever seen. When you are unable to complete the unit labs starting from the very first chapter because of incorrect information provided, that is not a good sign. There are so many flaws in this it's not even funny. There are much better RHEL6 books you can get. Do NOT waste your money here. Go get the book by Jang instead. Or wait until the vonHagen book comes out in July.

I got this book, and the Michael Jang RHCE study guide at the same time. I love the practice lab stuff this book has, but the typos, this publisher needs to have a nice long talk with the editing staff... It's not like the writers are writing in a second language, but the typos are goofy enough that you wonder about the code samples... Overall worth while, but practice, practice, practice and prove the code yourself before trusting it!

I hope the author reads this.1. The author knows his stuff. He writes well but..i. rushes in some areasii. assumes you know certain things. This certainly is not helpful.2. Material for RHCSA AND RHCE are mixed together. This is not helpful at all. It would have been much better if the sections were separated.3. Author explains really well and he breaks down each topic in a good way. Real world tips and exam tips are provided which I find very very helpful.Overall, it is a good book. However, the next edition should be properly organized ( one section for RHCSA and another for RHCE). All topics should be detailed.

I purchased this book to use for self-study as an alternative to Redhat's training courses. Folks without experience - be careful! Quality control on the content of this is non existent. There are numerous errors and inconsistencies, and will cause much frustration. If you are experienced, you will at least be able to figure out what the author intends in most cases and move on.My advice - use this book (carefully) only as a supplement to other study and practice, since there is really not much else out there right now for RHEL 6 certs.

First I will say that the author gave a good advise on the RHCSA exam, I have been in the UNIX-LINUX field a long time now and decided to get a certification is Red hat Linux, but the problem I noticed with the book is that it appears it was written in a hurry because of the relatively new RHCSA exams such that they can sell many of this books.Secondly, I agree with one of the readers who said that some of the instructions on the book are either wrong or incomplete and one has to try and figure out how to make it work. The author needs to go back to the drawing board and make modifications and corrections, the book like one other guy mentioned is not necessarily sufficient to make one pass the RHCSA especially a newbie in LINUX.One good thing about the book is that it has given me a very good idea of what RHCSA is all about, my only problem is that I do not have 4 machines to do my LAB, I have just finished the RHCSA chapters 2-12 and now starting over now to do a more serious study. Please can some one else advise us on what other book is out there that we can use to prepare for the RHCSA.Also can one pass this exams without going through the LAB?

I've just gotten this book and started to (attempt to) study. And so far, it's been a huge disappointment. There are no VMs provided, merely says to download VirtualBox and how to set it up. Unfortunately, all of these instructions are off. It says to set up 4 VMs with 384 megabytes of RAM. This is funny, since the minimum for Red Hat is 512, and has been since RHEL 4. And that doesn't let you use the graphical installer, which is required to do the whole first chapter as written. And, by the way, the screenshots throughout this first chapter? All clearly say Red Hat 5 instead of 6.I'm a chapter in, and it's pretty much unusable. I've read better step-by-step breakdowns on blogs that are more accurate than this book.Don't buy this book unless you're in for the "Troubleshoot the whole thing yourself" deal.

Good book, would buy again.
