About the Author
Henry Abramson is Dean of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Touro College South in Miami Beach. A native of northern Ontario, he received his PhD from the University of Toronto and has held visiting appointments and post-doctoral fellowships at Harvard, Cornell, Oxford and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his Talmudic training at Yeshivat Ohr Somayach in Jerusalem, Monsey, and Toronto. He is the author of several books and scholarly articles on Jewish thought and history, including The Sea of Talmud: A Brief and Personal History (2012).

Almond and Sidney Verba (1989). The theme has been more concisely analyzed in Walter A. Rosenbaum's Political Culture (1975). There is an attempt here to treat the raw notion of culture itself as a defining principle of international relations. Chay has segmented the study into five parts: Part 1 attempts to set out a general understanding of the concept with little specificity and obviously little agreement among the other contributors. Part 2 looks at the relationship from the perspective of the humanities, in particular an anthropological treatment of warfare, war and peace in literature, international relations in music, and the topics handled by philosophy. Another section is completely devoted to cultural aspects of US foreign policy. The last two parts look at geographical regions and issue areas. Given that so little attention has been paid to the importance of culture in explaining international group relations within the context of the international political system, this book is a worthwhile contribution. JONGSUK CHAY is a Professor of History at Pembroke State University.
