About the Author

Brenden Dilley was introduced to the world of "self-help" at the age of eleven by his mother, Lisa Kitter. At the age of thirteen, he was doing book reports on titles such as "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. He was raised in a typical middle-class family until his parents divorced when he was thirteen. His mother would later become a self-made millionaire as a speaker, author and corporate trainer. During this time Brenden worked, traveled, spoke and mentored by his mom's side. Â Upon graduating from high school, Brenden went on to become a highly successful personal trainer, receiving his certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. However, Brenden wasn't content with simply parroting the teachings of others. He would eventually create his class and method of training called "The Psychology of Fitness." Utilizing this unique form of self-development and body altering training, Brenden became known for transforming client's bodies as well as their minds. It was widely known that if you committed to training with Brenden not only would you become healthier physically, but other facets of your life would improve as well. Â Brenden is also a single parent to his three children: Sophia Rose, Jasmine Nai'a and Phoenix Alexander. Much of what Brenden writes, speaks about, teaches and trains on revolves around parenting, dating, relationships, self-empowerment, fitness and authenticity. His intensity, intelligence, directness and self-deprecating humor allow audiences and readers to relate to him on a very raw and authentic level. Brenden’s simplistic, vulgar infused “wisdom and teachings” can only appeal to a certain type of deplorable.

Although I waited 21 days to receive my order of this book, it was well worth the wait. Not only does the author put himself out there in a honest and sometimes self-deprecating manner he does so with humor and humility. I found myself identifying with the same realizations in life and appreciated the validation that there are others who face disappointments and adversity and come out a better version of themselves.Not bitter but wiser, able to forgive and yet share life's grace and God's blessings.Thank you Brenden for a really honest 'self-help' book. You should teach a course as a professor at a nice community college that isn't an indoctrination center, the students would highly benefit from your insight. #MAGA

One of his chapters was deep enough that it actually made me cry, the one on self-forgiveness. The rest of the book was more light-hearted. There’s wisdom in it.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I originally bought the book because I watch Brenden Dilleys Scopes on Twitter @therealhublife and I wanted to support him. The book is pretty real, just like he is in his scopes. Some people complain about the language, well, it's not THAT bad! 🙄 I guess if you can't take a little cussing, then don't bother, but you're missing out, especially the younger generation. I would have loved to have had this book in my 20s! Loved your short stories, they had me laughing out loud, just like your scopes. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this book, and recommend it to young women and young men before they begin dating and start building relationships that may or may not fail. Most of us have experienced lost loves or non-reciprocal love. A few of his words were a little spicy, but I am old enough to take it. Nothing I haven’t heard before. Though I have no relationship problems....married many years, Dilley’s words are uplifting, frank, and even harsh at times, but they made me ask myself if I was too controlling even after all these years. His words come from his heart, and he has lived what was written. He made me smile with him, cry with him, and empathize with him. Very wise for his age. Afraid to make changes in your life?? Don’t be. Just read this book and receive the kind of motivation you need to take your life to esteemable levels. Maybe there should be a volume 2 for us senior citizens!

Awesome book that doesn't pull any punches. Teaches you forgiveness of yourself and your past mistakes, which is really the only way you can start to move on and improve your life going forward.About the swearing: if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen, but know you are missing out on practical advice from someone who has really lived. Sometimes what you really need is someone to shock you out of your comfort zone & hold you accountable. Brendan Dilley does this in spades. He is the swift kick in the butt you need to make an actual change & actually learn.Highly recommend. Funny, thorough, compassionate, & real. Well worth the money. You will read it repeatedly, because it is just that awesome.

What you see is what you get with Brenden Dilley. The book is an easy read because it’s as if he is talking directly to you. It’s direct, to the point and motivating. It’s his life in a nutshell. I laughed, I cried but most of all took a look at my life and how I can be the best I can be in all areas of life Thank you Brenden for sharing your story. Loved it and highly recommend it for all to read. For any of you who are sensitive creatures, get over it. Life is too short for sensitivity. Read it, learn, and make each day count!

The biggest endorsement I can give Sleep Smarter is that I've been trying to convince my wife to go to sleep earlier for years. Finally, after I got this book, I not so subtly started sharing factoids from the book about the benefits of sleeping earlier and better sleep hygiene things that you learn in the book (like leaving your cell phone outside the bedroom), but she wasn't listening. Finally I said, hey baby, let's make a deal, read this book and I'll read whatever you want me to read. She agreed. A week later, she's heading for bed by 10 p.m. and following other tips found in the book! #winning!What's great about Stevenson's book is that he has a really full spectrum approach to getting better sleep. Some of them are obvious, like the classic early to bed, early to rise tip. But did you know that the body's rejuvenation mechanisms are amped between 10pm and 2am?It's science backed information like this that really helps. It's one thing to know that its better to get to sleep earlier, but quite another to learn that there's a real qualitative difference between sleeping between x and y hours. Common sense would dictate that you have to get x hours of sleep (I usually just get six, but we should be getting more, though Stevenson doesn't lay down the law on a number, instead focusing on better sleep quality), but who cares when we get it?It turns out that when you go to sleep, when you wake up, and which hours your body is resting are very important.The other point I'll make is that you may be reading this and saying "whatever." 21 tips? I can get this from the internet. But, back to my wife. I recently read a book called Paleo Fitness for Dummies, which is quite a good book in its own right. The authors of Paleo Fitness recommend some of the same things that Stevenson does, namely, try to cut out the electronic sources of lights 90 minutes before sleep and to go to sleep around or before 10 p.m. I tried to share this idea with my wife and she just laughed in my face. But after reading Sleep Smarter, she is buying in.*So, here's the point: sure, you can probably find information on many of these topics on the internet. Stevenson recommends meditation. There's plenty of information on meditation. Stevenson recommends light therapy. There's plenty of information out there. But, sometimes you need to convince people to buy in. Stevenson does such a good job assembling this information and presenting it in a compelling style, that it is well worth a few of your hard earned dollars.And maybe the person you will convince to buy in is you.Highly recommended.* I actually labeled this advice the bad in my review of Paleo Fitness!"The BadSome of the advice is very, very aspirational. The sleep section contains some great points, but who is going to completely shut down from the internet/tv at 8pm, be in bed by 10pm, and up before 7am? I've read a lot on nutrition, exercise and health and thought I knew enough about sleep. Turns out a lot of the tips on this book were either new to me, or provided me research and backing for things I'd heard were damaging to my body's ability to get a good night's sleep, but had questioned due to a lack of science to back the claims. My husband and I read this a few chapters a night over a week and really appreciated the format, for chapters we already were pretty solid on, we could read the power tips and move on, but for areas that provided new information to us, we took the time to read the whole chapter.We appreciated the author's sense of humor and practicality - for example, giving options for how to continue having coffee, vs. all or nothing solutions, and other "hacks" to help us integrate suggestions in our every day lives that can't always accommodate a perfect implementation.I had never heard of this author and didn't purchase the book based on his podcast. My daughter's doctor mentioned the role of sleep deprivation in weight management and recommended we look at her sleep habits as a possible cause for her unexplained weight gain. I thought this was strange as it seemed she was getting a lot of sleep, but looking closer at her habits, we realized she was not sleeping well and was tired all the time as a 16 year old. I had not thought about the timing and other factors impacting the quality of her sleep, not to mention mine or my husband's, and I was searching for answers about my own fatigue and recently night waking in spite of good diet and what I thought was adequate exercise. In looking for more information I found this book, and we've been applying these ideas as a whole family.

I usually do not give positive reviews often (check my history). I do a TON of reading of non fiction and self help.I'm 3 chapters in and I'm already going to give this 5 stars. It's literally that good. It's very digestable, very organized, the author is clearly a "teacher" (by another teacher's standards) and knows what to say, how to say it, how to connect with people, and has a natural humor that makes it very compelling to keep listening (or in this case reading). I'm already enthralled 3 chapters and I'll probably finish the book before the week is over.I already heard about the getting to sleep at the proper time. I've been doing it for about a week and already my outlook and attitude has changed completely.Also... Whoever decided on the cover, font, layout and all of that... incredible job. I know how hard it is to nail those things down but nail them down you did. Great typeset, comfortable line height, everything was beautiful.
